Sombre Prince Harry lands in Windsor to be with Meghan after night mourning with family in Balmoral

Prince Harry has returned to Windsor following the death of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, after spending the night at Balmoral with his family.

The Duke of Sussex rushed to Scotland to be by the Queen's side on Thursday after Buckingham Palace released a statement about her health. Tragically, Prince Harry, who was back in the UK alongside wife Meghan Markle for charity events, arrived at Balmoral 90 minutes after the announcement that Her Majesty had passed away.

Earlier today, Harry flew from Aberdeen Airport to reunite with Meghan, after it was announced she would stay in London. On his arrival at Windsor the Duke of Sussex cut a sombre figure as he was driven in the Land Rover by his security team, reports the Mirror.

His website with the Duchess of Sussex has temporarily changed to an all black screen which simply reads: “In loving memory Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.”

The Duke of Sussex had spent the night in the Scottish Highlands with King Charles III, as well as his brother and uncles. He was seen leaving the estate earlier this morning before heading to Aberdeen Airport.

On his arrival the 35-year-old was comforted by an airport worker before boarding the plane and heading south. On his arrival at Balmoral yesterday, Harry was seen looking downcast following the announcement of the Queen's death.

Her Majesty's passing was announced on Thursday with a short statement from Buckingham Palace, sparking worldwide sorrow. Dozens of people decamped to Buckingham Palace where the official announcement was posted outside.

Earlier this year Prince Harry spoke about his special relationship with his grandmother in an interview, claiming she speaks to him about things she can't discuss with anyone else. The Duke of Sussex claimed he can always make her laugh.

He said at the time: “I haven't had a chance to go back to the UK for a couple a years apart from those times, once for my grandfather's funeral and once for unveiling a statue of my mum. Being with her, it was great. It was great, it was really nice to see her in some element of privacy, which was nice.

"It was just so nice to see her … She’s on great form. She's always got a great sense of humour with me and I'm just making sure she's protected and got the right people around her. We have a really special relationship, we talk about things that she can't talk about with anybody else."
