Soldier 'shoots wife dead' at her birthday party in front of their kids before fleeing

A soldier allegedly shot his wife dead during her birthday party - with their children having to witness the horror.

Jordan Mykol Henning, an active-duty soldier stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, was arrested for the murder of his wife, Ashley Henning, during her birthday party.

The tragic incident took place on June 26 in Rineyville, Hardin County.

According to witnesses, the couple's argument turned violent, leading to Jordan shooting and killing Ashley.

The party, held in the LaVista Estates subdivision on Sierra Drive, had guests who were consuming alcohol.

As the argument escalated, neighbours attempted to intervene and calm the situation, but their efforts proved unsuccessful.

Concerned for the safety of the couple's children, the neighbours took them out of the house before hearing gunshots.

Jordan hastily left the scene in his vehicle after the shots were fired.

Subsequently, the neighbours discovered Ashley's lifeless body inside the house, sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to her torso.

Law enforcement responded to the incident at 9:47pm, and Jordan Henning was apprehended shortly after leaving the residence.

During his arrest, he expressed regret for harming his wife.

Both Jordan and Ashley Henning were members of the military, serving at Fort Knox. Jordan is attached to the First Army Division East, according to Fort Knox Public Affairs.

The Hardin County Sheriff's Office is collaborating with the commonwealth attorney's office and the Criminal Investigation Division at Fort Knox to investigate the case.

Jordan Henning has been charged with murder - domestic violence, a crime that carries a possible sentence of 20 to 50 years or life imprisonment upon conviction.

He was arraigned in Hardin District Court and is currently held at the Hardin County Detention Center, with a cash bond set at $1 million.

A preliminary hearing for the case is scheduled for June 30th, allowing further legal proceedings to take place.
