Solar eclipse 2015: This mind-blowing picture 'from ISS' is FAKE

This image of the solar eclipse purporting to be taken from the International Space Station is stunning, but unfortunately it's a fake.

The gorgeous picture is a 3D-rendering made by an artist known as 'A4size-ska' on creative website DeviantArt - as first pointed out by Gizmodo.

The picture of the annular eclipse was made back in 2009 using a piece of software called Terragen 2. The Milky Way was added in later using PhotoShop.

Despite this, lots of people are tweeting it as if it were real.

The same artist has a collection of stunning pictures - many of them showing different cosmic scenery. You can see the rest of them here.

The astronauts aboard the ISS will get a fantastic view of the solar eclipse - as there are no clouds 400km above Earth.

Clouds might be covering much of the UK for the the solar eclipse this morning, but that's not a problem for astronauts aboard the International Space Station.

Astronauts will not only be able to look out to space to see the Moon cover the Sun, but they'll also be able to look back down at Earth to see the Moon casting a large circular shadow over northern Europe.
