Sofyan Amrabat 'decision already made' on next step after 'snubbing' Liverpool

Liverpool have been dealt a potential blow in their reported pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the Fiorentina midfielder after his performances at the World Cup. Amrabat has impressed for Morocco and guided them to the semi-final of the competition before suffering a defeat to France.

Amrabat’s form in Qatar has seen him linked with a move to some of Europe’s top clubs, including Liverpool. The likes of Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with an interest in the player.

However, the latest report from Italy suggests he may not be moving to a new club after all. According to Calciomercato, a new contract may be in the works for Amrabat.

It has been claimed that Fiorentina are ready to exercise a contract extension on Amrabat’s deal. His current contract runs until 2024, with the Serie A club looking to tie the player down for a further year up to 2025. The Calciomercato article claims "the decision has already been made".

The report does say, though, that an offer of €‎30million (£26m) could tempt Fiorentina to do business over Amrabat’s future.

This piece comes just a couple of days after Amrabat appeared to snub the idea of moving to Liverpool. With Atletico Madrid being credited with an interest, it appears that the midfielder has his eyes on a move to the Wanda Metropolitano after admitting that he is a fan of manager Diego Simeone’s style of play.

Speaking to Spanish publication Marca , Amrabat said: “I’m proud to be linked to top clubs like Barcelona and Atlético. But I’m a Fiorentina player, I respect the club and I’ve a great relationship with the president.

"[Diego] Simeone? We have a good coach at Fiorentina too but… yes, I like El Cholo's [ Simeone's] style [of play]”.
