Sofía Vergara's metallic Christmas tree is an ultra-luxe twist on a retro tradition – experts say it has a 'winter wonderland' aesthetic that's easily replicable

Sofía Vergara is synonymous with her glamorous, sophisticated style, so it's only fitting that her Christmas decorations follow suit. This time of the year offers full permission for us to over-indulge in lights, metallic hues, and sparkles –because if we can't be luxurious at Christmas, when can we? Naturally, Vergara upholds this ideology in her living room.

In a break from conventions, the Griselda actress chose a silver Christmas tree – the perfect canvas for her maximalist collection of gold and pearlescent ornaments that exhibit an uber-luxe look.

While metallic trees are seen as a bolder twist on the naturally green alternatives, they are surprisingly versatile, having already impressed through the centuries. Silver (or, more specifically, aluminum) Christmas trees first became popular in the 1960s, thanks to the Aluminum Specialty Company of Manitowoc, Wisconsin, who helped launch the national craze. Wisconsin Historical Museum reports that their tree, Evergleam, was the most popular, finding its way into several million homes.

Silver trees have evolved since the '60s, with Vergara offering one of the most glamorous twists to date. It's reassuring, therefore, that if you're thinking of picking up a silver tree, it's almost certainly worth the investment.

Shop the look

'Gold and copper have proven popular in interiors over the past few years; however, the fresh take on metallics this festive season will see silver glitter adding a luxurious feel to any Christmas decoration scheme,' comments Jess Martin, a decoration expert at Ginger Ray.

For on-trend decorating advice (that will similarly stand the test of time), she recommends following Vergara's lead. 'Opt for cool cream, white and silver tones, glitter, glass and crystal textures, and frosted foliage to have your home feeling like a winter wonderland,' she notes.

'The great thing about this theme is that it allows you to embrace the maximalism trend while sticking to a cohesive color scheme throughout your home. This luxe trend oozes sophisticated chic and will see you through your festive social calendar into the New Year.'
