While some parents spend the full nine months brainstorming baby names, others have had their lists drawn up for years.
But one social worker has called out the parents who try to make their children's names too unique - saying they're doing them more harm than good.
Taking to the internet, the anonymous Reddit user from the US, shared some of the 'worst' names she'd heard while working, with some 'unusual' spellings making her list.
Taking to Reddit, she said: "I've seen some awful kid's names."
She went on to explain how 'the worst ones' usually have unusual spellings, with many of them making zero sense.
She continued: "Some that come to mind are sets of twins and siblings - Snowanna and Ivoryanna, Ebony and Ivory, Kyng and Kq'weene, Azzryehlla and Shyhxxanne, Ki'deon and Ki'edon."
But it wasn't only siblings who she called out for having "weird" names as she didn't hold back when it came to only children either.
"[I've met] single children named King John, A'Mirakol (a miracle), and Feenyx," she said.
"Another kid was named Stteban (pronounced Esteban, but the mum thought she was being clever).
"Also, La-a (Ladasha) is not a myth. It happens often enough."
While most users couldn't believe the names some parents pick out for their children, others shared those that made them do a double take.
One user said: "La-a (Lasasha) - I want to hope you're joking but I'm afraid you're serious."
A teacher added: "I've seen more than one student named 'Whisper' and at least one named 'Seven'."
A third user said: "My mother was a teacher - some of her favourites were Liberty and Justice Ferral, Orangejello and Lemonjello, and the classic Crystal Clear."
It comes after a dad admitted he "hates" the name his wife picked out for their daughter.
He explained how he named their son without any input from his wife - and now it is her turn to name their daughter.
The 36-year-old told Reddit: "Our agreement was that I got to name the first baby, and she got to name the second baby.
"She didn’t have any strong opinions or preferences with regards to naming our son so I went with what I thought was a strong, somewhat unique name but that could just as easily suit a musician as a lawyer or doctor.
"I picked the name Calvin Heath, the middle name after my brother who unfortunately passed away and my wife was fine with it."
But now the couple are expecting their second child, the man claims he is in two minds about signing his daughter's birth certificate because he doesn't like the name his wife has picked out for her.
"My wife told me she wants to name our daughter Ever Winter Rain where Ever is the first name and Winter Rain is the middle name.
"I don’t think this is a good name and that it isn’t fair to our daughter because Ever is a word and I don’t think it passes the Supreme Court Justice test.
"It doesn’t sound professional, it's confusing because it’s a word and I don’t think it would suit her into adulthood."
"I suggested Winter as the first name with a more normal middle name like Emma so she has options but my wife refused. But our agreement was that she got to pick the name."
"Would I be in the wrong if I refused and don’t sign the birth certificate if she wants to name her Ever?"
While most users agreed that he should speak up about disliking the name, others urged him to come up with variations of the name in an attempt to reach a middle ground with his wife.
