Social welfare recipients may need to make an urgent change as Kevin Street Post Office announces its closure.
The post office's final day of trade is this Friday. While customers will transfer automatically to St Andrew Street's post office, people are also advised that they can make alternative arrangements for other centres.
Green Party Councillor Michael Pidgeon asked people to spread the news amongst those who collect their pension or social welfare entitlements from Kevin Street. He also clarified that An Post were receptive towards the idea of local businesses running the service in the area.

He wrote: "Unfortunately the post office on Kevin Street is closing at the end of this Friday. They're moving customers to St. Andrews St post office (2km away). Pension/DSP customers will transfer automatically to St. Andrew Street, but can apply to use a different office if they wish."
The Cllr continued: "The postmaster there has decided not to continue, but An Post have confirmed to me that they are open to any businesses in the area who are interested in operating the service."
The two kilometre distance between Kevin Street and Andrew Street will likely come as a blow to vulnerable customers, particularly those without private transport. People interested in using an alternative post office besides the one on Andrew Street are encouraged to apply at other locations.
