Jobseeker's benefit can be claimed by employed people in some circumstances.
With the skyrocketing cost of living due to global inflation and eye-watering energy bills, many people are struggling to make ends meet. So, here is how you may be able to get some relief via social welfare.
There are four employment types which allow a person to claim the benefit while working. They are; your days are reduced due to a lack of work, you are a part-time or job-sharing worker, you get casual work and you have subsidiary employment.

The Citizen's Information website outlined the exact parameters needed to qualify for the payment while working.
It reads: "One of the primary conditions for getting Jobseeker’s Benefit is that you must be unemployed. However, you do not have to be totally unemployed – you must be unemployed for at least 4 days out of the 7-day social welfare employment week.
"You must also be available for and actively seeking work and you must meet all the other conditions for Jobseeker’s Benefit. For example, you must have enough social insurance (PRSI) contributions."
The four employment criteria are listed as:
- Your days at work are reduced due to lack of work (systematic short-time working)
- You are a part-time worker including job-sharing week on and week off (but not if you have chosen to do so)
- You get casual work or part-time work
- You have subsidiary employment
