Social welfare Ireland: Changed dates for payments due to February bank holiday

The first ever February bank holiday is fast approaching and those on social welfare are being reminded of a change to payment dates.

The February bank holiday, which marks St Brigid's Day, will fall on Monday, February 6. Post offices and banks will be shut that day before reopening as normal on Tuesday, February 7.

The Department of Social Protection has confirmed that any social welfare payments due to be in people’s accounts on Monday, February 6 will now be paid on Friday, February 3 instead. Payments due on Tuesday, February 7, which includes child benefit, will be paid as normal.

Due to the addition of the February bank holiday, there are ten public holidays in Ireland this year. The first of these fell on January 2 and following the February bank holiday there will be eight more to come:

· Friday, 17 March - St Patrick's Day

· Monday, 10 April - Easter Monday

· Monday, 1 May - May Day

· Monday, 5 June - June Bank Holiday

· Monday, 7 August - August Bank Holiday

· Monday, 30 October - October Bank Holiday, Halloween

· Monday, 25 December - Christmas Day

· Tuesday, 26 December - St Stephen's Day
