With the payment just around the corner, RSVP has listed all the information you need to ensure you don't miss out.
From eligibility criteria to the date it will be paid and everything in between, we've got you covered.
Who can claim Child Benefit?
Child Benefit, a vital support for families, is typically paid to the child's mother or step-mother. However, if the child resides with their father or step-father instead, the benefit can be paid to them. This ensures that children are cared for regardless of their living arrangements.
In cases where a child is not living with or being financially supported by their parents, the person responsible for their care may be eligible to receive Child Benefit. This provision ensures that children in various caregiving arrangements are not excluded from receiving the support they need.
If you have recently welcomed a bundle of joy into the world in Ireland, it's essential to register the birth of your baby within three months of their arrival. Once this step is complete, the Department of Social Protection (DSP) will initiate a Child Benefit claim on behalf of your child. This sets the process in motion to ensure your child receives the support they deserve.
Additionally, as part of this process, your precious little one will be assigned a Personal Public Service (PPS) number. This unique identifier will play a crucial role in various aspects of their future, including accessing important services and benefits.
How much is Child Benefit?
Child Benefit is €140 every month for each child. It is paid like clockwork on the first Tuesday of every month ensuring a consistent flow of assistance.
If you start getting Child Benefit for the first time for a baby, it will be paid at the start of the month after the birth of the child.
For twins, Child Benefit is paid at one-and-a-half times the normal monthly rate for each child. For triplets and other multiple births, Child Benefit is paid at double the normal monthly rate for each child.
How much is the Cost of Living Bonus?
For people receiving Child Benefit, an additional lump sum payment of €100 for each child will be paid in June along with the regular Child Benefit payment.
What date will the bonus be paid?
It is set to fall on the June Child Benefit date, which is June 6. However, due to the fact this date is just after a bank holiday, there is a good chance it will land in accounts early.
Usually when Child Benefit falls on the Tuesday after a bank holiday, parents see the payment in their account on the Friday or Saturday, so people could receive the bonus on June 2 or 3.
