Social welfare Ireland: 371,000 Irish households to receive €400 one-off payment in days

A one-off social welfare payment of €400 will be paid to 371,000 households nationwide in just eight days.

The Fuel Allowance cost of living bonus payment will be issued to recipients the week starting November 14. It is one of many bonus social welfare payments being issued this month after being announced in Budget 2023.

The Fuel Allowance is paid for 28 weeks from September until April and has a weekly rate of €33. Including the €400 bonus payment, this year's Fuel Allowance total value will be €1,324 per household.

Budget 2023 also announced changes to the criteria to qualify for the Fuel Allowance. From January 2023, people aged 70 and over will qualify as long as their weekly means (which includes their State Pension) is not above €500 per week for a single person and €1,000 per week for a couple.

People aged under 70, weekly allowable means above the applicable State Pension (Contributory) rate will increase by €80 from €120 to €200 in January 2023. Disablement Benefit and half-rate Carer’s Allowance will be disregarded in the means test for Fuel Allowance in January 2023.
