The 2024 Ohio State football class was supposed to bring in multiple high-level defensive ends after missing out on their top targets in the 2023 cycle.
Once again, that has not happened as on Tuesday, the Buckeyes missed out on yet another top target, this time Washington, D.C. defensive end Dylan Stewart, who choose South Carolina over Ohio State.
It’s another bad look for defensive line coach Larry johnson, who, although has a 5-star commit in Justin Scott, has missed out on many of his top targets at edge rusher. Let’s take a look at some of the X, the website formerly known as Twitter, reactions to Ohio State missing out on Stewart.
Rivals Jeremy Birmingham
Losing out on key EDGE rushers to Bama/Georgia last year and a West Coast kid to Oregon is somewhat understandable. When South Carolina (a fine, rising program for sure) and Miami are pulling the rug out from under you for kids from DC and Chicago? It feels a little different.

Breakdown
Birmingham is correct. It’s difficult to understand why the Buckeyes are losing these types of recruits to mid-level programs.

The Jordan crying meme is how Buckeye nation is feeling at the moment.
Letterman’s Row Matt Parker
Ohio State EDGE target Dylan Stewart has committed to South Carolina.
In the span of less than a month, the Buckeyes have seen two of their major EDGE targets (Stewart and Marquise Lightfoot) commit elsewhere.
A long way to signing day.

Breakdown
It is a long way until signing day, but not having some players committed at this stage is not ideal.

JC Shurburtt on @GamecocksShow:
‘South Carolina has been in the driver’s seat for Dylan Stewart since the end of last year. He’s a nice kid, which is why (Ohio State and Miami) thought they had a chance.’

Thoughts
Being grouped with Miami and thinking Ohio State had a chance is not a good look.
Buckeye Huddle Alex Gleitman
Major target off the board (for now) for #OhioState. There was good reason to think Stewart was looking good to end up in Columbus after his official https://t.co/eGaVqeLR2o

Thoughts
There was very good reason to think the was landing in Columbus, but here we are.

This is another blow for Ohio State recruiting. https://t.co/MJ6HIAwjv2

Thoughts
More like a punch in the gut. Ohio State needed to land at least two of their top defensive end prospects in this cycle and have struck out with all of them so far.
