Social media-addict mum locks mobile away in a 'phone jail' to spend more time with son

A mum has decided to take serious action against her social media addiction by placing her mobile inside a 'phone jail' in an attempt to spend more quality time with her child. Frances Barrett, 35, makes a living off her own social media business and was finding it hard to differentiate between work and personal life, as she spent so much downtime mindlessly scrolling through Instagram.

One night when she was watching TV with her partner, she became aware of how active they both were on their mobile phones and realised how little time they actually have with their little one before he grows up, the Mirror reports. Frances confessed she was spending at least eight hours per day on her phone but has implemented a new rule of locking her device away as soon as their son, Jake, gets home.

She's now successfully made a drastic improvement in her smartphone usage, as her screen time has dropped by 35 per cent in a week. The mum-of-one, from Essex, is now doing everything she can to actively try and be a better mother to Jake, two, by staying off her phone and paying him more attention.
