So How Did Former Prince Andrew’s Diabolical Arrest Photo End Up On A Wall Inside The Louvre?

For about 15 glorious minutes, one of the world’s most famous museums accidentally hosted the most cursed “royal portrait” of all time: Andrew Mountbatten‑Windsor looking like he’s seen a ghost in the back of a car after his arrest.

On Sunday, activists from anti‑billionaire group Everyone Hates Elon casually turned the Louvre into a pop‑up gallery for accountability. They rocked up, found a patch of wall near one of the galleries, and stuck up a framed print of Andrew’s now‑infamous arrest photo — the one taken as he left a Norfolk police station on 19 February after hours of questioning. The shot, taken by Reuters photographer Phil Noble, shows him reclined in a car seat, clearly trying (and failing) to dodge the cameras.

Underneath the frame, the group added a neat little plaque reading “He’s Sweating Now – 2026”. The line was inspired from a headline in British tabloid The Sun, which itself was a nod to Andrew’s widely criticised 2019 BBC Newsnight interview where he claimed he had a condition that meant he “didn’t sweat” when denying Virginia Giuffre’s allegations.

“They say hang it in the Louvre…”

Everyone Hates Elon filmed the whole stunt and posted it to Instagram, showing an activist calmly fixing the gold‑coloured frame and caption card to the Louvre wall like it was just another sanctioned installation. Over the top, they wrote: “They say ‘Hang it in the Louvre’. So we did.”

In a statement to media, a spokesperson for the group said: “We thought we’d show the former Prince Andrew how the world will remember him by putting up this iconic arrest photo at the Louvre… Let’s hope this is just the start. Justice for all Epstein survivors.”

The unofficial artwork reportedly stayed up for about 15 minutes before staff removed it, but with tens of thousands of people traipsing through the museum each day, that’s still a lot of potential eyeballs on a very unflattering royal moment. Imagine thinking you’re just there for the Mona Lisa and accidentally stumbling into a live‑action lesson on power, reputation and consequences.

The image has been everywhere since Andrew was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, questioned and then released under investigation. Authorities are reportedly probing claims linked to his time as a UK trade and investment envoy, including allegations he shared confidential government documents with Jeffrey Epstein. He has not been charged and has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein.

For the activists, though, it seems this wasn’t really about art, it was about legacy. By sneaking that framed photo into the Louvre, they treated it like a historical artefact — not of royal glory, but of what happens when the veil slips. And for one brief, petty, kind of perfect moment, the most famous museum in the world was forced to hang a picture of what the monarchy would probably most like to erase.
