More parts of the UK have seen flakes fall overnight after a weekend of Arctic weather left the country blanketed in snow.
Weather radar data taken from Meteoradar in the early hours of Monday showed snow falling in multiple areas in the east of England and northwest Scotland, while temperatures dived below freezing across most of the nation.
Many areas still have snow on the ground, with the race now on to clear roads and pavements in time for the Monday morning rush hour.
Forecasters expect the chill to continue into Monday and likely beyond, with Met Office Chief Meteorologist Steve Willington saying: “It is staying cold with daytime temperatures remaining only a few degrees above freezing in many places over the coming days and overnight temperatures dropping to -10°C or lower in isolated spots.
Fears for the morning commute come after a wave of wintry showers unleashed travel disruption on Sunday afternoon.
All flights from London Gatwick and London Stansted airport were stopped late on Sunday following several hours of heavy snowfall in the capital.
The weather has also caused considerable amount of disruption on the roads, with delays on the M25 in Kent and queues in both directions around Junction 7 M23.
Photos taken on the M25 in Essex showed large tailbacks after large amounts of snow settled on the road.
National Highways duty operations manager for the region Gina Oxley said: "We have been out gritting throughout the afternoon and we're continuing to treat routes so we can reach the worst-affected areas and support our customers with their journeys.
"For anyone thinking of travelling tonight, our advice would be not to unless absolutely essential as heavy snow is expected to continue until 9am tomorrow."
The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for ice and snow for the south east of England until 9am, with other areas also under warnings for heavy fog.
