A snow map has suggested that parts of the UK, and particularly Scotland, could see some wintery conditions moving into next week.
The Met Office's long range forecast does not yet predict snow, but they have said that there could be "winter showers" in the north-east of the UK towards the end of next week. As reported by the Mirror, it comes after a cold start to the year with parts of Scotland having already logged temperatures as low as -10.
Another forecast that provides a snow map suggests that there could be some snowfall over the weekend and moving into next week. The interactive weather data viewer has given a 90 percent chance of snow falling on certain days in Scotland.
This forecast comes from WX Charts, which predicts chilly conditions continuing into next week as some areas of the UK are seeing high chances of snow. On Saturday, January 28, they predicted that a small area in the Scottish Highlands will have an 80 percent of snow.
This Sunday, the dark orange and red areas around Scotland show that many parts of the country have a 70 percent to 90 percent chance of snow.
The chance of snow drops slightly on Monday as there is a 40 percent likelihood in Scotland. By Tuesday, however, most of Scotland has been given a 70 percent to 90 percent chance of falling snow.
In their long-range weather forecast for Tuesday, January 31 to Thursday, February 9 the Met Office predicted "temperatures generally varying between mild and cool, with a frost risk remaining."
The meteorological experts also warned of: "spells of wet and windy weather mainly to the north and northwest."
The forecaster added: "In any colder interludes between frontal systems, we will likely see a mixture of sunshine and showers, perhaps wintry in the northeast."
However, things could warm up as we get further into February, with the Met Office predicting: "temperatures are likely to be at or slightly above average," but they warned that "brief colder spells remain possible."
