Snow blast expected to hit this month - map shows exactly where will see most snowfall

Snow could hit parts of northern England and Scotland this month as the mild weather comes to an end, forecasts suggest.

An interactive Snow Risk map on website Netweather predicted a flurry of snow could fall in the Scottish highlands as early as next week, before wintery conditions spread into northern England towards the end of the month.

The map lets you see where in the UK has the highest chance of snow, what date it's expected, and how deep it could be.

The most northerly parts of Scotland are most likely to see snow toward the end of the month.

Meanwhile, the Met Office said it expected the current mild conditions to continue for another five days at least before the weather turns more unsettled, with rain, strong winds and lower temperatures.

It's likely temperatures will drop to single figures, with lows of around 7C.

Met Office meteorologist Annie Shuttleworth told The Independent: “With average temperatures for this time of November, you can get rain falling as snow on the high grounds of Scotland as well as potentially the high ground of England and Northern Ireland.”

She added that wintery conditions will begin to pick up in the UK toward the end of the month with more dry and settled weather seen more widely leading to colder temperatures.

“For the end of November, it generally looks like we’ll see high pressure and lots of dry and settled weather,” Ms Shuttleworth said.

Meanwhile, The Met Office has described today's temperatures as "exceptionally mild" and said it could be one of the warmest Armistace Days on record.

Met Office Meteorologist Alex Deakin said this weekend will bring "misty and murky conditions" for many of us on both Saturday and Sunday, with "incredibly mild" temperatures.

He said a weather front pushing towards Northern Ireland, central and southern Scotland is likely to generate some outbreaks of rain on Saturday.

He added: "As the wind starts to ease, we are likely to see more mist and fog so it could be quite another pretty grey start to Sunday morning.

"Even where it stays grey, temperatures again will be well above average, getting into the teens and with a bit of brightness, 16C, 17C."
