Snoop Dogg, Gloria Estefan to be inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame

NEW YORK — Hip-hop mogul Snoop Dogg and groundbreaking Latin music superstar Gloria Estefan highlight a diverse list of new inductees to the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

They’re part of a seven-member 2023 class that also includes Harlem-born R&B producer Teddy Riley, Electric Light Orchestra co-founder Jeff Lynne and Nigerian-born British singer-songwriter Sade, organizers announced Wednesday.

Liz Rose, who frequently collaborates with Taylor Swift, and Glen Ballard, who contributed to popular Michael Jackson and Alanis Morissette songs, round out the class, which will be inducted during a June 15 ceremony at New York City’s Marriott Marquis Hotel.

“The 2023 slate represents not just iconic songs but also diversity and unity across genres, ethnicity and gender, songwriters who have enriched our lives and, in their time, literally transformed music and the lives of billions of listeners all over the world,” said the hall’s president, Nile Rodgers.

Snoop Dogg’s songwriting credits include his hits “Gin and Juice” and the chart-topping “Drop It Like It’s Hot.” Estefan, too, was a writer on many of her biggest songs, including “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You” and “Words Get in the Way.”

Ballard co-wrote Morrisette’s Grammy-winning “Jagged Little Pill” album and Jackson songs including “Man in the Mirror.” Riley, too, co-wrote Jackson songs such as “Heaven Can Wait” and “Dangerous,” as well as the Blackstreet hit “No Diggity.”

Rose’s co-writing credits include Swift songs “Teardrops on My Guitar,” “You Belong with Me” and “All Too Well.” Sade co-wrote and performed many of her eponymous band’s songs, including ‘Smooth Operator,” while Lynne wrote ELO hits including “Livin’ Thing,” “Mr. Blue Sky” and “Evil Woman.”
