Snoop Dogg has said he has “nothing but love and respect” for Donald Trump years after being embroiled in a feud with the former US president.
The rapper explained his change of heart came after Mr Trump "pardoned Michael Harris", the co-founder of Snoop’s first label, Death Row, who was in prison for drug trafficking and attempted murder, according to The New York Times.
In January 2021, Mr Trump, who is running for office again in the 2024 US election, pardoned Harris.
Speaking to the Sunday Times in a new interview, Snoop said: “Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me.
“So I have nothing but love and respect for Donald Trump.”
The American rapper’s change of tune may come as a surprise to many having previously taken aim at Mr Trump’s controversial views.
In 2016, Snoop told his followers he planned to move to Canada after The Apprentice star was voted into office – a move that never came to fruition.
The following year, the musician then provoked a reaction from the former president after releasing his music video for Lavender, which featured a clown named Ronald Klump dressed as Mr Trump.
The video showed Snoop aiming a gun at the clown, which he pulled to reveal a red flag with the word, “BANG”, written on it.
In response at the time, a lawyer for Mr Trump said he was “shocked” by the video and demanded an apology. Following his legal team’s comments, Mr Trump then suggested Snoop should be arrested.
Later that same year, Snoop released a song titled, Make America Crip Again – a take on the businessman’s on campaign slogan, “Make America Great Again”.
The artist raps in opening line of the song: “The president said he wants to make America great again. F*** that s***, we’re going to make America crip again.”
Snoop also took another pop at the politician when he released cover art for his EP, Make America Crip Again, which featured a corpse labeled “Trump.”
However, the rapper’s feeling towards Mr Trump first began to turn whe nthe president, in one of his last acts in office, pardoned Harris.
He told the New York Post in 2021: “I love what they did.
“That’s great work for the president and his team on the way out.”
Snoop's comments come less than week after he thanked those praying for his 24-year-old daughter, Cori Broadus, as she recovers from a severe stroke.
“Thank y’all for praying for her, appreciate it,” he told the PA news agency at the premiere of his new film, The Underdogs.
