Donald Trump has returned to Saturday Night Live and he’s got a lot of thoughts on science-fiction movies.
No, it’s not the actual Donald Trump nor is it Alec Baldwin reviving his impersonation. It is new SNL cast member James Austin Johnson, who for our money, is the best Trump impersonator on the planet.
Johnson joined in on the cold open to this week’s show which skewered the shock win governor election win in Virginia for Republican Glenn Youngkin.
One of the best things that Johnson does as Trump is to not talk about politics but instead delves into pop culture for no other reason than it’s funny to hear Trump talk about movies and video games.
Appearing on a mock version of Judge Jeanine Pirro’s show on Fox News, ‘Trump’ attempted to take credit for Youngkin’s victory and gives a rundown of examples of where his advice has succeeded in the past.

This includes him advising George Lucas to include Lightsabres in the Star Wars movies before going on to wax lyrical about Dune, which he sees a lot of possibility for (15 movies?). Eventually, he managed to mention Virginia again but somehow managed to start rambling about Super Mario, Chris Pratt and the ‘awful’ new Marvel movie The Eternals.

Needless to say, this was a classic bit of Trump from Johnson, who was playing the former president for the first time on SNL and viewers were stunned at just how accurate the impression was.
He’s got that impression down! Voice, cadence, gestures, and look—the makeup folks even gave him a neck-gina 🤣🤣🤣 pic.twitter.com/iHUOdwSIKY

This is such an eerily good impression. Almost made me wanna turn it off, it was so close to enduring the real thing. @shrimpJAJ #SNL https://t.co/qu8GpBf5eW

If I never see the actual Trump again it will be too soon but I could watch this guy all day. https://t.co/bbmGjEQ9ZJ

With Trump starting to rear his head again more and more and with rumours of a 2024 election bid running rife, we dare say that this won’t be the last time we see Johnson as Trump on SNL, so at least we’ve got that to look forward to.
