Sneaker convention gears up for massive Dublin event

Lovers of runners and urban fashion are in for a treat this April as a massive sneaker convention is coming to Dublin.

SouldOut Convention takes place at The National Stadium on April 9 and promises plenty of sneaker finds as well as other activities such as tattooing and skateboarding.

The first SoldOut Con took place last September in Limerick. After an incredible reception, the team decided to take the event to Dublin, which is set to be even bigger with more vendors and a larger attendance.

One of the event's organisers, Nigel Briganti, told Dublin Live what people can expect from the Dublin edition of the event in April.

He revealed: "It's Ireland's first and only sneaker convention."

Comparing it to the previous convention in Limerick, Nigel said of the upcoming Dublin one: "It's going to be way bigger.

"We already have more sneaker vendors than we did total vendors at the event in Limerick. So it's already bigger from a sneaker perspective.

"We're bringing in a lot more activities. We have three tattoo artists, a barber, live DJs and live music from rap crews from all over Ireland. It's going to be huge."

Nigel described the "unbelievable" reaction to the Limerick convention that was held in September, saying that it even featured on a segment with Tommy Bowe on Ireland AM.

"On the day itself, we had over 500 people turn up to a venue in Limerick on a Sunday," he said.

Since announcing the Dublin event, Nigel said that the reaction has already been "huge".

He explained: "We did a soft launch last week where we connected with an illustrator from the UK to do our artwork. She's just come off the back of a collaboration with Nike. We're reaching out to some big players in the industry."

Sneakers have always been an interest of Nigel's, something that he fell in love with through basketball and skateboarding.

Nigel is part of a team of four that organises SoldOut Con, a group that ranges from 23 years old to 45, all with a passion for sneakers.

Tickets for SoldOut Con are on sale now at soldoutireland.com.
