Result: Port Adelaide 11.9 (75) bt Hawthorn 11.6 (72) on Friday night at Adelaide Oval.

They said it: "We copped it a fair bit during the week from external sources - some people who probably don't know too much about us. We really proved to ourselves that we deserve to be here." Port Adelaide captain Connor Rozee.

Key moments: With less than two minutes left, Hawthorn captain James Sicily marked and had a shot at goal to put his side in front. But he hit the post and it was the last score of the game. Sicily had words with Port opponents, including Power coach Ken Hinkley, moments after the siren.

The stat: Since 2000, 12 teams have lost their qualifying final by 50 points or more. All of them have won their semi-final, including Port on Friday night.

Injuries: Port Adelaide star Jason Horne-Francis was helped off in the last quarter with a leg problem. Power forward Todd Marshall was assessed for concussion and eventually subbed out of the game. Teammate Lachie Jones was also sore in the last quarter. Port forward Charlie Dixon was a late withdrawal with illness.

What's next: Hawthorn's impressive return to the finals after their 0-5 start is over, while Port meet Sydney next Friday night in a preliminary final.
