Israel police searching passenger bags made a shocking discovery on Monday, finding dozens of smuggled reptiles about to enter the country.

Law enforcement discovered the roughly 60 reptiles, worth thousands of shekels, in luggage on a flight from Germany to Israel.

The smuggling operation was discovered at Termina; 3 of Ben-Gurion Airport, according to The Jerusalem Post.

Officials working for Israel's Nature and Parks Authority identified the reptiles as dozens of non-native snakes of varying species, as well as monitor lizards.

The suspect attempted to smuggle the live reptiles in his suitcase internationally before he was apprehended by police detectives. The reptiles have been remanded to the custody of Israel's Nature and Parks Authority.
