Smyths respond as customer sounds price warning to RTE's Joe Duffy in run-up to Christmas

A Smyths shopper has warned fellow parents that some items in the Smyths catalogue are on-sale for higher than they are in-store at the moment - with Smyths confirming some prices will soon hike.

A caller on RTE's Liveline spotted that a barbie dollhouse priced at €250 in stores at the moment was put in the catalogue for €325, a €75 increase.

Speaking to Joe Duffy, Jenna McCormack said: "The catalogue came in yesterday through the post we get it every year.

"My daughter was looking through it and she spotted the Barbie day to night dreamhouse.

"Just happened to look at the price and it differed hugely to when I spotted it in the shop the other day, so I decided to look it up.

"At the moment it is retailing at €249.99, and in the catalogue it is priced up at €324.99 - so €75 in the difference.

"Now there is a few(gone up) - this is only looking at barbie."

Smyths confirmed to RTE's Liveline that the caller "was right", according to Joe, with the barbie dreamhouse set to increase in price in the coming weeks but shopping today you could still get the lower price.

And this appears to be a trend in the run-up to Christmas with the price of PlayStation 5 increasing in recent months from €500 to €550 - and other products looking like they're heading down the same route.
