On Election Day in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, the largest typically red county in the state, things have been running smoothly according to election officials. Lancaster County Commissioner Ray D’Agostino expressed that 'things are going extremely well' and mentioned that they prefer a 'boring' election process.
As of 3 p.m. ET, over 50% of the approximately 64,000 mail-in ballots returned had been opened and scanned by election workers. The officials announced during a news conference that they expect to complete the counting of mail-in ballots by midnight tonight.
Commissioner Josh Parsons highlighted the possibility of a record turnout, citing reports of long lines at polling places, especially in the suburbs and rural areas of the county, which is located more than an hour and a half west of Philadelphia.
Lancaster County, a region that supported former President Donald Trump in both the 2016 and 2020 elections, has been a focus for Democrats aiming to narrow the margin in this Southeastern rural county.
