Smoke seen 'billowing' from Glasgow student flats after fire breaks out at west end building

Fire crews raced to a student accommodation building in the west end after a fire broke out.

Emergency services were called to West Princes Street in the Woodlands area around 8am on Monday after the blaze took hold.

Neighbours reported seeing smoke billowing from the student flats on the site of the former Robin Anderson Theatre while residents were evacuated onto the street.

There are no reports of any injuries and fire fighters remain on the scene to make the area safe.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 8.07am on Monday, 19 June to reports of a building fire in Glasgow.

"Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the city's West Princes Street, where firefighters worked to extinguish a fire within the building's first floor.

"Crews currently remain on scene working to make the area safe.

"There are no reported casualties."
