Smart lifeguard system to make Vizag beaches safer

VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra University, in collaboration with Space Applications Centre (SAC) of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the National Centre for Earth Science Studies (NCESS), Thiruvananthapuram, is developing an automated rip current alert system through video beach monitoring system (VBMS).

For this, a VBMS station has been recently established at Rushikonda beach for continuous monitoring of the sea. This system consists of a camera installed on the top of a tower near the beach. The data procured from this station will help researchers of the project to study and understand the beach processes and rip currents. It will also serve the objective of assisting the lifeguards in case of any drowning event.
