Sleeping with a fan on in hot weather can actually be really bad for you

The hot weather continues as the Met Office predicts highs of up to 27C in Liverpool this week.

We've had weeks of sizzling heat and while this is good news for some, it can also stop people from sleeping properly, leaving them uncomfortably tossing ang turning in a bid to get some shuteye.

Some people use cooling methods such as fans, but reports suggest you shouldn't use these at night as it could actually be bad for your health.

Experts say the breeze that you think is soothing you to sleep, is actually circulating all the dust and pollen in the room, as reported by Hull Live. Worryingly, this can cause a build up in your sinuses and potentially trigger asthma or similar allergies.

Plus, the blast of cooler air can dry up your skin, as well as your throat, and even your eyes. It can even cause sinus irritation.

Instead, the Met Office advises: “Stay out of the sun. Keep your home as cool as possible – shading windows and shutting them during the day may help.

“Open them when it is cooler at night. Keep drinking fluids. If there's anybody you know, for example an older person living on their own, who might be at special risk, make sure they know what to do.”
