"Slay the Spire 2 has been out for merely a week and we have already hit 3 million units sold with more than 25 million runs," says a stunned Mega Crit after becoming Steam's biggest roguelike

Slay the Spire 2.

Mega Crit Games' highly anticipated roguelike sequel Slay the Spire 2 is finally here, and it seems folks are really digging it.

In a Steam update, the studio reveals some very impressive stats suggesting the five-year wait for the sequel was worth it — not that that's any surprise considering the game quickly surpassed Elden Ring Nightreign as Steam's biggest roguelike ever.

"Slay the Spire 2 has been out for merely a week and we have already hit 3,000,000 units sold with more than 25,000,000 runs attempted!!" says Mega Crit, adding that the actual number of attempted runs is probably a little higher than that because the devs only started tracking them after launch.

"Our team has been extremely excited to see so many people's enthusiasm for what we've been working on for the past 5 years–but our journey is just beginning!"

As for what's next, as if that's a normal thing to ask a week after a game's launch, Mega Crit says it's not ready to get into the specifics on "high-level content" beyond what's already been confirmed, which is alternate acts for acts two and three, as well as "more cards, events, and other content, etc." The dev also says it'll probably never stop dropping balance updates as "balancing the game will be a constant journey."

As for the more granular content that's coming, Mega Crit confirms the scoring system is getting a "revamp" while the leaderboard is getting a "friends-only" filter. There's also a phobia accessibility mode coming alongside "more art and VFX," Steam Workshop support, multiplayer quality-of-life features, and official Twitch plug-in support.

Finally, Mega Crit has opened up a beta branch on Steam for players to test out new changes. You can click that on by right-clicking on the game in your library, then heading to properties > game versions & betas > public-beta. Voila! Now you're living in the future.

"In terms of a release cadence, we don't want to commit to a strict schedule," says Mega Crit. "New content and balance changes will come to the main branch whenever we feel they're ready. The beta branch will have more frequent updates in the meantime!"

Slay the Spire 2 has a "very worrying" OP character, and one player with over 10,000 hours in the original is certain Silent's "numbers need tweaking"
