Kay Burley was corrected by Ukrainian refugees over her geographical blunder on Sky News today.
The presenter was interviewing Allada and Anastasia from Kharkiv to discuss fleeing their hometown, which is currently one of the Russian's target cities, and ending up in Dublin, Ireland "by accident".
During their chat, the pair explained how difficult it has been - and still is - for those in Kharkiv.
"As you know, civilians are dying every day. Our families who stayed in Kharkiv are hiding in bomb shelters and underground stations to avoid Russian rockets and bombs," Allada told Kay during their interview.
The pair were left "stranded" in Poland after fleeing Ukraine, and say they ended up in Dublin "by accident".
Following the interview, Kay thanked the two guests for speaking to her, before making a huge geographical blunder - by referring to the people of Dublin as British, which the interviewees quickly corrected her over.
"I’m so pleased that you are safe and what a terrible journey you have had but hopefully you can start to build a new life in Dublin safe in the knowledge that the British people are completely behind you," Kay said.
Allada then replied and made a point that it was the Irish people who have helped them: "We are so grateful to Irish people for all the kindness and all the hospitality that they treat us with and our Irish family who host us,
"In this family, we are surrounded by care and attention. We could feel family warmth and we really appreciate it."
Viewers tuning into the news show were quick to point out Kay's error.
"Wow that's highly embarrassing ... British media institution not knowing where or what Britain actually is & then being corrected by Ukrainian school going children @SkyNews @KayBurley @rtenews," one wrote.
A second added: "Ireland is not Britain, Kay, in much the same way Britain is not France."
" @KayBurley may as well have said she hopes they can build a new life in Dublin safe in the knowledge that the Senegalese people are completely behind them. When is her birthday? Let’s crowdfund her a map!" a third shared.
