Sky Mobile down: Customers report outages across the network

Sky Mobile appears to have gone down for thousands of customers across the nation shortly after 2pm today (Tuesday, May 16).

Users reported that their mobile internet is no longer working with some saying they have no phone signal at all.

According to Downdetector, a platform that measures outages, there are currently over 1,800 reported issues.

In response to customers’ complaints and questions, the Sky Help Team’s official Twitter account shared that they were investigating the issue.

Their tweet said: “We are aware that some Sky Mobile customers are experiencing issues with making and receiving calls right now. We are investigating the issue and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may be causing.”

Sky Mobile runs off of the O2 network, which also appeared to be having issues, but a spokesperson has said that this isn’t the case.

The spokesperson for Virgin Mobile O2 commented on the matter, sharing: “We’re aware of the issue that is impacting Sky Mobile customers. Whilst they use the O2 network, this issue is impacting Sky Mobile services only and our network is working as usual.”

Frustrated customers have been airing their disappointments on social media throughout the afternoon, with one user sharing: “Sky mobile are absolutely rubbish, can’t even be bothered to notify customers when [their] mobile phone network goes down!”

Another said: “Will be leaving sky as soon as I can actually use my phone to call you and tell you that!!!!! Our business uses sky mobile and we are losing customers because they can’t call us and we can’t call them!!!! Not good enough.”

And a third Sky Mobile customer revealed: “Are we going to get any form of compensation [from] you guys at all? This is outrageous and I’ll definitely be switching as soon as my contract is up, can’t be having this.”
