Sky announces another surprise broadband price hike but you can avoid it if you act now

Sky put up its broadband prices back in March with the firm adding around 8.1% to the cost of monthly bills. Although that hike affected millions of UK users, it was hoped that customers who had signed up for the firm’s NOW service instead would escape the bill increase. However, it appears that things are finally going up for them as well.

Confirming the news on its website, NOW says that users will face an extra £3.50 being added to their bills with the changes coming into force from 5 July 2023.

“At NOW, we’re all about bringing you great value, award-winning broadband, so you can stay connected to everything you love. That’s why we were voted Best Value for Money Broadband Provider in this year’s Uswitch awards. We understand that things are tough right now, and so alongside investing in improvements, we're focused on providing value for our members. We haven’t increased our prices since NOW Broadband launched in 2018, but the costs of providing broadband services have increased significantly, and it is affecting the entire industry.”

It’s a big blow to those who thought they may have escaped the hikes but there is a way to avoid paying more.

NOW says that those not happy with the changes can cancel without fear of being hit by exit fees.

“You can cancel your NOW Broadband Membership. If you’re within your minimum contract period, give us a call on 0330 041 2498 within 31 days of receiving the price increase notification to avoid early termination charges. You can check the details of your membership by heading to My Account.”

That’s good news as many firms have been known to fine customers large amounts if they leave their current deal before the contract has ended.

If you are about to be hike by the hike, one switch that might be worth considering is a move to Sky’s main broadband plans.

The firm is currently offering half-price discounts until the end of the year with plans starting from as little as £17 per month. That low price is for standard 59Mbps speeds but there's also the same deal on the provider's 500Mbps plan which has been reduced to just £24 for the rest of 2023.
