Skincare experts' warning over 'unsafe' holiday tanning trend

A holiday tanning trend has been slammed as "unsafe" by experts.

Scorching conditions hit the UK this week and people have been basking in the rays to achieve a sun-kissed look. However, a social media influencer's tanning technique has caused alarm amongst skin care experts - as Mirror Online reports.

Miriam Mrovili took to TikTok to show her sunbathing technique that involves mixing water and moisturiser in a spray bottle. Miriam goes by the username @mimosaaaxo - and the video has since gone viral and viewed over 5.4 million times.

Followers flooded the comments to express concern and Miriam said she has applied sun protection first. She said: "We use Purito Centella green face sunscreen (SPF 50) mixed with our face moisturiser on our faces, and then rub in sunscreen on our bodies."

However, skincare experts at JustMyLook warned people to not follow the "unsafe" tanning technique. A spokesperson said: “We strongly advise against undertaking this hack.

"Not only is the process unsafe, but exposure to the sun in this way with no protection can severely increase the risk of sunburn which can lead to melanoma ( skin cancer ). They added: “We recommend wearing an SPF of 30 or more and applying it 15 minutes before exposing your skin to the sun.
