Skincare expert names £3 Primark moisturiser among 'secrets to perfect skin'

A skincare expert has shared his secrets to achieving a flawless complexion - and it doesn't involve spending all your money on designer creams and serums.

Scott McGlynn, 35, hosts Instagram series Celebrity Skin Talk where he has chatted with the likes of Nadine Coyle, Kaye Adams and Michelle Collins about their beauty habits. After suffering with acne when he was younger, Scott used to splurge hundreds of pounds on "things that didn't work", before realising that high-street dupes and home hacks did the job just as well if not better than the pricier brands.

Now he has shared his hacks to healthy skin, which involves purchases for less than a fiver from the likes of Primark, B&M and Lidl. He also uses some unconventional products around the home to keep him looking refreshed with easy methods that don't cost a penny, the Liverpool Echo reports.

"One of the first things I learned was you can use make your own face wipes," Scott advised. "You can buy reusable large facial pads for £1.99 from B&M and use your own cleanser. My favourite cleanser at the moment is the Cien cleansing milk from Lidl that costs just £1.79."

Another of the skincare expert's favourites is from Primark. "The Primark Vitamin C cream is an exact dupe of the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base," he pointed out - while Primark's costs just £3, the Bobbi Brown version would set you back £49.

Scott also loves moisturisers from Revolution, which all have a price tag of less than £10. "They are incredible, they're so nice and so rich, which are perfect for winter," he said.

In fact, some parts of your beauty routine needn't cost a penny - Scott uses items that many people will already have at home to help his eyes look refreshed after a late night. "Brew a teabag, then wet a reusable facial pad with the tea - you then can place it onto your eyes and have a well deserved rest," he advised.

Another suggestion is putting used tea lights in the fridge overnight. "I have a lay down, pop them on my eyes so they're lovely and de-puffed for the rest of the day," Scott said.

The skincare pro's top tips include cleansing your face twice a day, as well as using a serum and moisturiser twice a day. Scott also swears by a tip from Dr Pimple Popper, which is to put moisturising products on just after showering or bathing when your skin is still damp.

"You get so much more benefit from the product that way as it sinks in deeper whilst your pores are still open," he explained. Let it sink in and do its magic."

But Scott added that when it comes to finding good skincare, everyone is different and it's all about undergoing a trial and error process to see what works best for you.
