With El Niño set to potentially break snow records, the Forest Service reducing its avalanche mitigation programs, a Western landscape partially decimated by numerous fires so that there's nothing for snow and precipitation to hold onto, this season's snowmobiling looks extremely hazardous to riders' health. At least, it very well could be. Weather is rather unpredicatable, and even more so since NOAA got its funding slashed, too.
For those of us out West, this year's riding season looks primed for a lot of avalanches, with not enough people educated on what to and not do, how to prepare, and what to do in the likely event of an avalanche. But the good folks over at Ski-Doo know this, which is why they're once again setting up free classes on avalanche preparedness for any and all involved.
