A sixth man has now been charged in connection with the death of a Greenock dad who was allegedly gunned down on his doorstep.
Neil Canney, 37, was found seriously injured in Nairn Road in the town at around 1.15am on Tuesday, February 28. He was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he died a short time later.
Police previously charged five men in connection with the death. Earlier we told that, three months on, officers had now also arrested a 24-year-old.
Cops have confirmed that he has now been charged and is due to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Thursday, May 11. The five other men, aged 22, 23, 27, 28 and 38, who were previously arrested and charged have already appeared at court.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "A 24-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the death of Neil Canney in Greenock. Mr Canney, 37, was found seriously injured in Nairn Road around 1.15am on Tuesday, February 28, 2023.
"He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he died a short time later. The 24-year-old is due to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court on Thursday, 11 May, 2023 and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.
"Five men, aged 22, 23, 27, 28 and 38, have already been arrested, charged and appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court."
