A NUMBER of Scottish bakeries have been named on a list of the best in the UK.
The Times’ list of the 49 best bakeries to visit across the UK has been compiled by a number of chefs and bakers.
Roberta Hall-McCarron, who is the chef and co-owner of the Little Chartroom in Edinburgh, was selected to pick the best bakeries in Scotland.
Here’s all those that made the list.
Bostock Bakery, North Berwick
The bakery is known for its bread and sausage rolls and was described as “what is needed to kick-start the day”.
Hobz, Edinburgh
A relatively new bakery known on the Leith Walk garnered praise for its grilled cheese sandwiches and cookies.
Twelve Triangles, Edinburgh,
Hall-McCarron said this bakery was where she learned how to make bread and that her favourite items were the caramel brownies, almond croissants and challah bread.
Lannan, Edinburgh
This bakery, located in Stockbridge, is relatively new to the city and its pastries have been described as “brilliant”.
The Pastry Section, Edinburgh
Described as more of a cake shop than a bakery, Hall-McCarron said the only drawback to this place was that it was “lethal to have it across the road from our restaurant”.
Aran bakery, Dunkeld
Located in Highland Perthshire, the bakery was described as having an “incredibly savoury offering” with the wild garlic and asparagus goat’s cheese Danish being singled out for praise.
