A lot of time and effort (and money) goes into planning a wedding, especially if you want it to be a day to remember. While many couples may opt to go down more traditional routes, there is an ever-growing trend which sees people stray from the norm when it comes to the venue and arrangements in a bid to stand out from the crowd.
While a church or registry office are the most common places to tie the knot, they're not the only options.

There are dozens of places dotted around Greater Manchester that you can get married in - some of which you may not know are licenced to marry couples.
Albert Hall
The iconic Albert Hall was restored to its ‘majestic baroque glory’ in 2012. The Grade II listed architecturally historic building located on Peter Street in the city centre was founded in the 19th century as a Wesleyan Chapel.
While it may be known for holding popular nightlife events and concerts, it was granted a wedding licence in 2014.
Victoria Baths
Victoria Baths is licensed for both ceremonies and receptions, with ceremonies possible in any of five different spaces.
These include the three empty swimming pools or the Turkish Baths Rest Room with its Angel of Purity stained glass window.
The Grade II listed building off Hathersage Road in Manchester originally opened to the public in 1906.
The Baths promises “a wedding with a difference that will be remembered by you and your guests for years to come,” as the venue offers a range of dramatic and unique spaces to which you can add your own personal touch.”
FiveFour Studios
If you’re looking for the “ultimate blank canvas” to design and create the wedding of your- dreams, fivefourstudios is licensed to host Civil Marriage Ceremonies by Salford City Council.
Located on 54 Oldfield Rd, Salford, the venue promises three pure white studios, an elegant and relaxed bar and a private lounge for quality, stylish, stand-out events.
They host ceremonies and seated dinners for up to 120 guests and up to 240 for parties.
Manchester Art Gallery
If you are a lover of art, getting married in a gallery could provide a stunning background to your ceremony.
The iconic gallery on Mosley Street, which dates back to 1823, can hold weddings among the distinctive Mancunian paintings by Lowry and Valette in Gallery 16.
After the ceremony guests can “celebrate with drinks in the romantic Pre-Raphaelite Galleries, followed by dinner and dancing in the glass Atrium, the Galleries or the Gallery Café.”
Science and Industry Museum
The Science and Industry Museum located on Liverpool Road, is a place many of us have fond childhood memories of.
The museum, which opened in 1969, is housed in five listed buildings. You can say ‘I do’ on the top floor of the world’s first railway warehouse, with the venue promising “to provide you with a wealth of unique photo opportunities.”
The Wellbeing Farm Bolton
If the thought of embracing nature and being out in the fresh air sounds like your dream wedding, the Wellbeing Farm in Bolton is known for its sustainable ceremonies - they even offer you a discount if you work with them to implement a green wedding package.
If you get hitched here, you can choose from the “charming characterful converted rustic” barn or the “alfresco outdoor wedding pavilion with the most stunning views of the surrounding countryside.”
Otherwise, there are a host of other places on the farm to have your dream ceremony.
