Men with advanced prostate cancer who receive Pluvicto at a community hospital close to home could face longer clinic stays, hospital admissions, or longer drives if a draft federal radiation guide is finalized as written, nuclear medicine groups are warning. The concern centers on a simple number: a full six-dose course of the drug slightly exceeds a new default limit the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has proposed for sending treated patients home.
The draft, known as DG-8070, would revise the NRC's long-standing guide on releasing patients who receive radioactive medicines. It is not final, but doctors, physicists, and drugmakers told regulators it could push smaller sites to stop offering the therapy, FiercePharma reported on Oct. 6.
