Six people were taken to hospital after two buses collided in South London, with the impact forcing one into the front of a theatre.

Emergency services were called to the collision in Newington Causeway just after 8am on Wednesday.

Photographs taken at the scene shows one double-decker bus crashed into the rear of another, shattering its front window.

The bus at the front appears to have then been pushed into the entrance of Southwark Playhouse in Borough upon impact.

Several people were treated at the scene, with six being taken to hospital, London Ambulance Service said.

Police said none of the injuries was deemed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

"We treated a number of patients at the scene and took six of them to hospital," a spokesperson for the ambulance service said.

One of the buses had been moved from the scene of the crash at 11.30am.

No arrests have been made.

The road is partially open to traffic and police are directing vehicles in alternating traffic flows.

"We care deeply about the safety of everyone who uses or works on our transport network and our thoughts are with the people who were injured in a bus collision this morning in Southwark," Lorna Murphy, TfL's director of buses, said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Safety is our top priority and we are working with the police and the operator, Go Ahead London, to establish what happened.

"This must have been a distressing incident for everyone involved and we have support available for anyone affected."
