Six Nations: Jamie George and Elliott Daly withdraw from England training through injury

Jamie George and Elliot Daly have been withdrawn from England’s training week through injury.

Hooker George and three-quarter Daly could both yet return to England’s ranks next week however, ahead of the Guinness Six Nations opener against Scotland at Twickenham on Saturday, February 4.

George suffered a head injury in Saracens’ 14-10 Champions Cup defeat at Edinburgh on Sunday, while Daly withdrew ahead of the match with a hamstring issue.

Newcastle’s Jamie Blamire and Bath’s Ollie Lawrence have been called into the England’s squad for training this week.

England called up Bath’s Tom Dunn on Monday to replace George McGuigan, who suffered a knee issue on Gloucester duty.

Northampton’s David Ribbans replaced club-mate Courtney Lawes too, with one of England’s two vice-captains struggling with a calf problem.

Lions hooker George will be given every chance to come through his return-to-play head injury protocols in time for the opener against Scotland.

The 72-cap front-rower would add vital experience should he recover in time, with Luke Cowan-Dickie missing through ankle trouble.

England will lack Test experience should George remain absent however, with Blamire boasting six caps, Dunn just three and Harlequins’ Jack Walker uncapped.

Daly forced a first England call in more than a year after glittering Saracens form, and will now have his hamstring injury assessed.
