England’s Six Nations preparations have been further disrupted after wing Jonny May was forced to withdraw from the squad due to a knee injury.
May’s withdrawal comes on the back of captain Owen Farrell suffering an ankle injury in training for Saracens last week.
Farrell is due to miss England’s Six Nations opener against Scotland on Saturday and his return date is currently unknown.
England will need to name a new captain for that game at Murrayfield, but they have not yet done so as Courtney Lawes is unavailable to train this week.
The second row, who captained England during the autumn in the absence of Farrell, is currently undergoing head injury return-to-play protocols.
Saracens back Elliot Daly has been called up to replace May, while Leicester fly-half George Ford has been drafted in to cover for Farrell. Nick Isiekwe has also joined as injury cover for Lawes.
England are currently in Brighton for a five-day training camp as they prepare for the Six Nations to begin.
