Six killed, as many injured as tanker rams into van in Lucknow

LUCKNOW: As many as six passengers including four youths were killed and six others sustained injuries after a van they were travelling in collided head on with a tanker in Banthra area of Lucknow in the early hours of Saturday.

According to police, the incident took place around 3am at Bani Mohan Marg in Banthra.

The deceased have been identified as Shailendra (35), Ramdhar (15), Purushottam (23), Jaikaran (16), Sambhar (13) and Rahul (13), all Hardoi natives.

Assistant commissioner of police, Krishnanagar, Pawan Gautam said that the van plying from Lucknow to Hardoi via Mohan Road was carrying 12 occupants.

"When they reached Latif Nagar, a speeding tanker rammed into their vehicle. The driver of the tanker managed to escape while locals and passersby informed the police about the mishap," said Gautam.

A police team reached the spot and got all the injured admitted to a hospital. Bodies of the deceased were also stuck in the mangled remains of the vehicle.

The official said that the all six were declared brought dead, while the injured were recuperating in a government hospital.
