Six Greater Manchester boroughs have Covid infection rates below national average - as every borough sees rates fall by at least 50 per cent

Coronavirus infection rates have fallen in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester - as every borough has seen the rates fall by at least 50 per cent.

One borough, Wigan, has seen cases continue to plummet by as much as 61 per cent, data has revealed.

And across the region, six boroughs also now have rates below the national average.

Currently, Tameside continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in Greater Manchester, with 1095 cases per 100,000 people as of week ending January 15th.

The lowest infection rate is in Stockport, where the rate is 863.4 cases per 100,000 people.

In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 961.2 cases per 100,000 population.

The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 965.0 cases per 100,000 people.

A total of 27,257 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week which ended on January 15.

The Greater Manchester weekly total has decreased by 32076 cases compared to the previous week, which means the infection rate was down 54 per cent in the last week..

The infection rate is higher than the national average in 4 areas of Greater Manchester. It is lower than the national average in 6 areas.

Hospital admissions

In the week ending on January 09, a total of 1133 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is two more than the week before.

On Tuesday January 11, there were 51 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is six more than a week earlier.

Deaths

In the week ending January 15, a total of 125 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 24 more than the week before.

Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 765,996 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,293 deaths.

Salford

Salford recorded 2577 coronavirus cases, which is 3460 fewer than in the previous seven days.

The latest infection rate in Salford is 981.0 cases per 100,000 people and that is down 57 per cent week-on-week.

Stockport

Stockport, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 2540 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 15, which is 3302 fewer than the previous 7 days.

The coronavirus infection rate in Stockport is now 863.4 cases per 100,000 people and is down by 57 per cent week-on-week.

Bury

The trend is down in Bury, where there were 1821 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 15, which is 1982 fewer than the previous 7 days. That is down by 52 per cent compared to the previous week.

The latest infection rate in Bury is 954.9 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.

Bolton

There were 2967 positive tests over the last week in Bolton, which is 3223 fewer than in the previous week.

The week-on-week trend in Bolton is down by 52 per cent and the latest infection rate is 1029.3 cases per 100,000 people.

Manchester

Manchester saw a total of 5273 cases in the week ending January 15, which is 5180 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of 50 per cent.

In Manchester, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 948.8 cases per 100,000 people.

Tameside

In Tameside, there were 2487 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending January 15, which is 2516 fewer than the previous 7 days.

Tameside has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Tameside is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by 50 per cent.

Oldham

There was a fall of 55 per cent in cases in Oldham over the week ending January 15, and the infection rate is now 906.9 cases per 100,000 population.

Oldham recorded 2155 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 2653 fewer than the previous week.

Rochdale

In Rochdale, the latest infection rate is 1027.9 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by 53 per cent.

A total of 2299 people tested positive for Covid in Rochdale over the seven days ending on January 15, which is 2638 fewer than the week before.

Trafford

Trafford is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 901.6 cases per 100,000 people.

There were 2142 cases recorded in Trafford, which is 2444 fewer than the previous week - a fall of 53 per cent.

Wigan

In Wigan, the number of cases is down by 61 per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 905.9 cases per 100,000 population.

There were 2996 positive Covid-19 tests in Wigan in the week ending January 15, which was 4678 fewer than the previous 7 days.
