A knifeman entered a kindergarten in China and butchered six people including three young children this morning.
Police in China's south-eastern Guangdong province confirmed that a 25-year-old man, identified only by his surname, Wu, had carried out the heinous attack.
The adult victims are said to have been a teacher and two parents, a city official in Lianjiang town, where the attack happened, said.
Authorities added that there is another victim with injuries though his condition is unknown.
The frenzy took place over a 20-minute period after starting at 7.40am Monday morning (23.40pm Sunday GMT).
By 8am he was arrested on charges of "intentional assault", police revealed.
A shop owner working close to the scene of the crime said the local area has been completely sealed off.
The incident has sparked panic across China, including on the Twitter-like Weibo platform where some users shared their horror over the grisly attack.
Though violent crime is rare in China when compared to the rest of the world, there have been a number of kindergarten knife attacks in recent years.
In October last year, three were killed and anothe six injured in a similar attack in Jiangxi.
A man described as a "gangster" wearing a peaked cap and a mask stormed a private kindergarten in Anfu County.
Officials released the name of their initial suspect - a 48-year-old local man called Liu Mouhui.
In unconfirmed videos of the scene shared on social media, a police officer can be seen carrying a tiny child in his arms from a partol car to an ambulance.
Meanwhile, a year earlier in April 2021, two kids were killed and another 16 injured during a knife attack in Guangxi Zhuang.
Chinese cops have galvanised security around schools since 2010, with the Ministry of Public Security promising to "resolutely crack down " on criminality to ensure teachers and students are sage.
