Six arrested and £10k of drugs seized in Lanarkshire crime crackdown

Six people have been arrested and £10,000 worth of drugs seized in a series of police operations cracking down on drugs, weapons and disorder.

Officers from Lanarkshire’s Alcohol and Violence Reduction Unit arrested five men and one woman, in connection with drugs, weapons and disorder offences between Tuesday, April 19 and Saturday, April 23.

Drugs worth an estimated street value of more than £10,000 were seized in these operations.

Lanarkshire’s Alcohol and Violence Reduction Unit moved to assure the public that police were "working hard to drive down crime levels".

At around 8.10pm, on April 19, officers on patrol stopped and searched a 29-year-old man on Wallace Street, Rutherglen.

He was arrested and charged in connection with drugs and offensive weapon offences. The man was released on an undertaking and will appear at court at a later date.

On April 21, at around 7.45pm, officers stopped a vehicle on Auldhouse Road, Glasgow. Following a search, a 51-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with drug and disorder offences. He was due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday, April 22.

That same evening, officers stopped a vehicle on Glasgow Road, East Kilbride, around 7.15pm. One man, aged 18, was arrested and charged in connection with drugs and weapons offences.

He is subject of a report to the Procurator Fiscal and will appear at a later date.

Also last Friday, officers on patrol observed a car in Hunter Street, East Kilbride. The driver was behaving in a suspicious manner and officers approached the vehicle.

A 33-year-old man was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with drugs offences. He has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

A 21-year-old woman was arrested on Saturday April 23 and charged in connection with drugs offences. She was due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on April 25.

At around 9.30pm, the same evening, officers arrested a 32-year-old man after he was stopped in Slenavon Avenue, Rutherglen. He was charged in connection with the possession of an offensive weapon.

He was due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on April 25.

Sergeant Graham Reid, from Lanarkshire’s Alcohol and Violence Reduction Unit, said: “We are acutely aware of the detrimental impact crime has in our neighbourhoods and I would like to assure the public that we are working hard to drive down crime levels and lessen the impact crime has on our local communities.

"If anyone has concerns regarding criminal activity, please report it to us in the knowledge that we will act on your concerns.”
