After passing away just a few days apart, two sisters will be laid to rest together. Shaunie and Shavanna Thomson, from Edinburgh, passed away within three weeks of each other as a result of separate events, and their "heartbroken" families are preparing a joint funeral.
When mother-of-two Shaunie, 26, passed away unexpectedly on February 12, tributes were paid to her. A week later, a distraught Shavanna, 21, shared her sorrow over the loss of her "twin" online. Shavanna also passed away on Friday, as disclosed by her heartbroken relatives.
Friends of the siblings, described it as "the worst news any family can get" as donations flooded in to support the siblings' burial expenses yesterday. Mary McGovern, who is organising the fundraiser, wrote on crowdfunding site GoFundMe: “The family have made the decision to have both girls funeral together which during the worst time of their life’s will also be finically difficult. Rest easy girls we hope you have the best beds in heaven forever #26 #21.”

The death of Shavanna over the weekend prompted a flurry of tributes to both sisters. Posting to Facebook, one family member wrote that she was “so heartbroken”.
She said: “Why again have I lose another sister not even weeks later you both been taken away from us to soon. I love you both forever and will miss you both really can’t believe I have lost the best to sister’s in the world.”

A report on Shaunie’s sudden death has been received by prosecutors. A spokesman for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said: “The Procurator Fiscal has received a report in connection with the death of a 26-year-old woman in Edinburgh on 12 February 2023.
