Kate Nash celebrates losing her "new Lily Allen" tag
The music industry got a bit of a wake-up call last year when Lily Allen arrived and proved to everyone that not just boys, but girls could make music. Really, it was quite a shock. How they manage to string all those chords and lyrics together without the aid of a penis is a mystery to many. Crazier still is that, thanks to Lily's blog exploits, girls are learning to write internet diaries too. They'll be wanting to bloody vote next!
Having said all that, this week's selection of purely X chromosome bloggage proves that female musicians are far more passionate and interesting than the boring blokey indie bands when it comes to the art of Making My Blog Round Up Easier. They're also more prolific (yeah, I'm talking about you, Ricky "one post" Wilson).
So what better place to start this week's roundup than with the New Lily Allen™, aka Kate Nash. Her latest post is an exhibition of Kate Nash-related clips she's seen posted on YouTube, from one budding female solo artist doing a wonky cover of her song Birds to two other girls making a video accompaniment to her track Merry Happy. When they posted up their home videos, these girls probably didn't realise they'd end up on the MySpace profile of one of 2007's most hotly tipped acts. Seems you can't even be a shameless exhibitionist these days without everyone watching you.
Charlotte Hatherley has decided that Preston's a bit of a gentleman for walking out of Buzzcocks after new host Simon Amstell said nasty, mean things about his wife. Also on her list of Good Men of Indie is Alan McGee, who bigged up her decision to set up her own label and lectured her on how major labels are turning into dinosaurs (he's right - you can currently see Sony/BMG on display at the Natural History Museum).
