Sister of Vicky Phelan thanks Ryan for support on his final Late Late Show

Vicky Phelan’s sister Lyndsey appeared in the audience on last night's Late Late Show and spoke to host Ryan Tubridy on his final outing as host.

She shared how Vicky's children are doing six months after the cervical cancer campaigner passed away in November 2022 at Limerick’s Milford Hospice at the age of 48. She was the mother to two children - daughter Amelia and son Darragh.

Vicky became friends with Ryan Tubridy after appearing on The Late Late Show several times over the years. A tribute to Vicky led a segment on Ryan's final Late Late Show as former guests no longer with us were remembered for their bravery and impact on the country.

He said: “So many people I could think about tonight who came here and who are no longer with us.”

The RTE star stated that Vicky stood out and that he will always remember his final interview with her.

“Certainly one of the most prominent interviews I have ever done was with Vicky Phelan who was just an extraordinary human being,” he shared.

"We spoke many times over the years, but her final interview is probably the one that lives in my memory and I'm really happy to say that Vicky's sister is with us tonight.”

Vicky's sister Lyndsey sat in the audience and gave an update on how their family is doing since the campaigner’s passing.

She said: “We're doing okay. We're doing the best that we can at the moment. We're very lucky we're a very close family and we've lots of support around us.

“We have been very lucky over the last couple of years with everything with Vicky. We have received so much support from everybody and I just want to say thanks to everybody.”

She also spoke about Vicky’s two children, saying: “They're doing okay, they're very strong like their mother, they're tough. They're resilient like Vicky."

Lyndsey thanked Ryan for welcoming them on to the show and for giving support to Vicky and her family.

“It was such a rollercoaster the last couple of years and when you're in it you don't realise what it's like on the outside,” she said.

“Then you have so many people that would approach me and say, 'Vicky's so amazing and she's a hero,' and I used to be there going, 'Yeah, but like she's just my big sister to me'.

“When we used to come up on The Late Late Show we used to have such fond memories of being up here.”
