Conjuring the cinematic spirits of Mad Max, Walkabout and French classic Wages of Fear — then distilling them through the wonky lens of the free traveller rave scene — could slice itself any which hideous way.
Fortunately, French-Spanish director Óliver Laxe has magicked up a (literally) pulsating and mesmeric (usually hyperbole, but not here) work of arthouse brilliance that looks set to cross over into the mainstream. It’s already swooped up four Cannes awards, including the Jury Prize, and is up for best international feature at the Oscars.
